Alpine meadows give way to crystal-clear glacial lakes as narrow-gauge and cog railways climb to the breathtaking snow-capped mountain peaks of the Jungfrau and the Matterhorn. Paddle steamers ease their way across stunning Lake Geneva and beautiful Lake Lucerne, calling at picture postcard villages and charming medieval towns. Switzerland benefits from marvellous scenery and the fabulous fusion of German, French and Italian cultures into a Swiss mix of precision, style and comfort.
Wherever you choose to visit in Switzerland, it is the most enjoyable country to travel around thanks to the seamless and super-efficient public transport system. There are many scenic trains which give you the opportunity to sit back, relax and soak up the enchanting landscapes and awesome views. Our holidays to Switzerland will give you the opportunity to experience some or all of the following trains; the famous Glacier Express which takes you to the ‘roof of the world’ on the world’s ‘slowest’ Express train as it crosses 291 bridges and glides through 91 tunnels, the equally-impressive Bernina Express which passes over graceful viaducts, through galleries hewn into the sheer rock and alongside rushing mountain streams, the captivating Golden Panoramic Express which climbs through the Bernese Oberland and past flower-bedecked characterful chalets from Montreux to Lucerne or the quaint Centovalli railway which trundles across a ‘hundred valleys’ on its way to Locarno on gorgeous Lake Maggiore.
I just wanted to say a big thank you to you for all the effort you put in, at very short notice, to organise what was a truly superb holiday.
We had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed everywhere we went. To make a great holiday even better, on our last night on Lake Garda, we got engaged!
Brief Feedback on travel
Rail Travel: All great – real pleasure to travel first class – all on time and smooth running
Ferries: Fine – Genoa (where we entered mainland Italy) was an unexpected pleasure – lovely city
Taxi transfers – all very good – on time and nice people
Brief feedback on Hotels
Marseille – Nice hotel right on the old port – everything within easy walking distance – boat tours literally across the street from the hotel (we visited the Calanques). Nice quiet room and helpful staff.
Stintino – The shuttle service to the beach was excellent and the staff were terrific – really friendly and helpful. And the breakfasts – oh my word! The best we have ever tasted. We read the reviews before we went and everybody was talking about the breakfasts and we thought well, how good can a breakfast be? Answer – unbelievable!
Garda – WHAT A VIEW! Our room was on the rooftop and had a terrace directly looking onto the lake. I would have said the breakfast was tremendous. but we had been spoiled by Stintino! Very helpful staff (we used the hotel’s bikes and they gave good advice on boat trips and train times to Venice).
Once again, many thanks Guy – brilliant holiday thanks to you and your team
